Morning Song
Texas is preheating There is a sign jammed into a rock bed that says Grass Growing, Please Use Sidewalk again, jammed into a rock bed sans grass sans sidewalk I know everything on this paved mile I know the stray cats Funny Face and Long Boy and Orangie Delia, once a Spanish missionary her tattered collection of rescue animals Buzzballs, greasy paper Purple passion flower thickening The smell of piss and green Occasional vomit pile, pick a color any color. Today a man someone hired to chop down a tree in their yard is taking his time he carves at the heart slowly with his Husqvarna, you’d be surprised how red the meat how wood the smell He wedges a 4x8 into a groove making a platform to be close to his patient I wonder is the tree really dead or did they just tire of it at some point he passed a rope over the top of the tree looped at the end like a noose A tow truck rattles past mobile crucifixion machine I always thought Imagine they paraded Jesus around on the Dodge Ram Heavy Duty the neighbors hollering and spitting Cruelty isn’t special of course and the flayed tree is still standing days later.

Love that you shared this, Hanna!
oh man
a wave of tears.
